What 500,000 Custom Songs Taught Us

August 31, 2026 · 7min read · The ForeverSongs Team

ForeverSongs has now written and produced more than 500,000 custom songs. Every one of them starts the same way: someone answers a few questions about a person they love. Put half a million of those answers together and you get a picture nobody else has of who people make music for, and when.

Everything below comes from our internal order records, aggregated and anonymized. Percentages and patterns, never individual stories.

The #1 occasion is not an occasion

We assumed birthdays would dominate. They don't. The single most common reason people order a custom song is "I love you" (about 17% of all songs), followed by "just because" at 14%. Birthdays come third at 14%, anniversaries at 11%, Valentine's Day at 10%.

Nearly a third of all custom songs have no calendar trigger at all. People don't wait for a date to say the thing. The date is just permission.

Husbands are the most-sung-about people in America

About 7 in 10 songs are for a romantic partner. The single most common recipient, ahead of wives, moms, and kids, is a husband. The voices people pick tell the same story: 49% ask for a female singer, 34% for a male voice, and 17%choose "surprise me." The classic ForeverSongs order is a wife putting to melody what her husband never asks to hear.

A footnote from the name field: the most-sung first name in our history is Michael. And enough people type "Dad" where the name goes that Dad outranks almost every real name in our top 15.

America's love language is R&B, with a country accent

Two genres carry the catalog: R&B (43%) and country (27%). Seven of every ten songs. Hip-hop and acoustic round out the top five, along with the one that surprised us most: worship. Faith songs outsell rock on our platform.

The pairings are where it gets charming:

  • Songs for a wifeare R&B almost half the time (48%).
  • Songs for Dadgo country (39%), nearly double his R&B share.
  • Songs for a son have the highest hip-hop share of any recipient (16%).
  • Songs for Mom are the most likely to be worship songs (12%).

People don't pick their own favorite genre. They pick the recipient's. The sound of the person, not the buyer.

Love runs on a weekend schedule

Friday and Saturday together account for 37%of all orders, the two biggest days by a wide margin. Monday is the quietest day of the week. Songs get made when there's finally a minute to feel something.

The songs actually get played. A lot.

The stat we're proudest of: 98% of delivered songs get played, and the median song is played 11 times. Nearly 3 in 10 songs pass twenty plays and about 1 in 12 passes fifty. Tens of thousands of songs are still being replayed three months after they arrived.

Most gifts get opened once. A song made from your own memories becomes a habit.

Perfection is iterative, and that's fine

About 1 in 5customers requests at least one revision. A name sung differently, or a verse that needed one more memory in it. That number shaped our product more than any other. It's why revisions are unlimited and free: a song about someone's life deserves a second draft, and asking for one shouldn't cost anything.
